6nr. derelict buildings (3nr. grade II listed whilst 1nr. facade only is listed) situated in the Ropewalks conservation area

The Brief

Integrate a variety of buildings and uses within one development. The intention is to rebuild and restore the area whilst promoting the development of creative industries with ‘live and work’ units.

The Solution

  • Re-designed scheme and applied for planning to retain the coach house/stable
  • Numbered the buildings 1 to 6, worked sequentially and in tandem with the main contractor (partnership contract)
  • Split building 2 into 2 & 2A– retained internal walls (2A) whilst only retained the façade on another (2)

The Outcome

  • Provided 21nr. flats, 1nr. house, 15nr. studio spaces for artists, 1nr. coffee shop/bar and 1nr. office building
  • Saved the coach house/stable from demolition
  • Collaboration with Marshalls and design of external furniture
